Home @ Quba

About HQ

Built as a home, not a monument.

Home at Quba is a San Diego community initiative — founded in 2024 to make more space for the kind of belonging that's harder to find than it should be.

Our story

Where the name came from

The name draws from Quba, a place in early Islamic tradition described as "built not as a monument, but as a home." That phrase — "as a home" — is the conviction we started with.

HQ was founded in 2024 by a small group of San Diegans who wanted to build the kind of community spaces they wished existed when they were growing up: more depth, more inclusion, more places that actually feel like home for everyone who walks in.

Our mission

Home at Quba is a community dedicated to the holistic wellbeing of youth, young adults, and families in San Diego. We exist to create spaces where people belong — where learning, care, and connection meet, and where inclusion is foundational, not optional.

Working mission statement

Core values

Three things we keep coming back to

Every program decision, every facilitator we train, every event we host — we measure them against these three.

Belonging

الانتماء

Every person who walks in should feel the community was made for them — that they were thought of, accounted for, expected. Not tolerated. Not accommodated. Expected.

01

Sincerity

الإخلاص

Work done for Allah, not for metrics or recognition. The intention behind a thing matters at least as much as the thing itself — and it shapes the kind of community we end up with.

02

Inclusion

الشمول

A foundation, not an add-on. We design programs from the start with the people most often left out in mind — most concretely through our Special Connections Program for youth with special needs.

03

Who we serve

Open to everyone.

Youth, young adults, and families in San Diego — through programming that's welcoming to anyone, regardless of background.

Inclusion of individuals with special needs is intentional and central, not an afterthought. The Special Connections Program is one way that shows up; the way we design every program is another.

Faith & inclusion

Faith-rooted. Open to all.

HQ was founded by community members from a Muslim background, and our work is faith-rooted in its origins. That informs the values we lead with — belonging, sincerity, inclusion — and the care we put into how we gather.

But our programming is open to everyone, regardless of background. The Special Connections Program is concrete evidence of that posture: it's not a separate inclusion initiative on the side, it's central to who we are.

Leadership

Four co-founders.

Home at Quba is led by four co-founders who together built the organization from the ground up. Photos coming soon; for now, initials.

Annual reports & financials

Transparency by default.

As we publish annual reports and financial disclosures, they live here. We believe in transparency — both because it's right and because the funders and community members who support us deserve to know what their support is producing.

First annual report coming after our first full year of programming.
